So after years of drawing and looking I think I have forgotten that drawing and looking are like muscles, they need work/ action to keep them alive.
Years ago I was working with another artist, Kirsty Claxton, with Bishop’s Castle Primary School. The work was amongst the richest experience that we have had. The head teacher was ready and willing to watch and listen to the pupils as they explored through drawing in some very wild ways, action enabling the pupils to extend their communication skills and, for a while, really inhabit themselves.
At the end of the work we had an open day/ exhibition and invited the pupils to consider how best to present their work and experience with us. Almost unaminously they told us that they felt that the audience for the work needed to do their own drawing responses.
